Have you seen the viral video of an off-duty Army Captain saving a husband and wife by pulling them from a burning car. The video showing Army Captain Steve Voglezon using a fire extinguisher to break a car's windows and rescue a couple has been all over the internet and has also been picked up by national news networks.
And besides his heroic actions, what also has caught the attention of viewers of the video is that Voglezon was wearing a Captain American t-shirt while making the rescue. The Army Captain was not alone in the rescue as other neighbors also sprung into action when they saw the accident.
In fact, the man who shot the viral video actually pulled the driver of the other car to safety before beginning to film the off-duty Army Captain in action.
Below is more of the story, along with a video, from the military news blog BuiltUSA.
“I grabbed one of the fire extinguishers and we smashed out on the back window and the driver’s side window. …. there wasn’t a real plan, I just had tunnel vision,” Voglezon told ABC News. “If I had not been a soldier, I would not have known what to do. The Army has helped a lot. I was just at the right place at the right time.”
The Army Captain went on to downplay his role in the rescues. He felt that he was being singled out as a hero when there were many heroes on the scene that day.
“We have a calling to do whatever we we’re called to do,” Capt. Voglezon said. “Today I was called to be there at that spot at that time.” He continued, “People do this every day at the fire department. I wasn’t alone out there, there were at least 10 of us in the community working together.”
