This Air Force Veteran Was Unhappy In His Apartment...Then This Man Stepped In To Help!

Robert Garcia, Air Force veteran, and his wife, Katy, was not feeling as welcome as they had hoped in their local retirement community. At first, it seemed like a nice community for the couple, until the rules and restrictions, inspections, and regular pesticide sprayings were making them feel uncomfortable.

It was then that they decided to rent a home with an option to buy, hoping that they would be able to get the financing they needed to make the house a permanent home. Unfortunately he had no credit, and made all his purchases with cash. That is when the 81-year-old disabled veteran discovered the Veterans Administration Housing Summit. There, he met Arturo A. Ramirez II, the president of the San Antonio chapter of Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals.

Ramirez educated Garcia on how to raise his credit score, and now his is able to officially become a homeowner.

Other veterans can reach the same goal with the help of the Veterans Housing Summit, presented by VAREP. With several other sponsors they offer counseling, tips, and assistance.

Ramirez commented that veterans often need help unraveling the red tape involved in the process of purchasing a home and researching all that the VA has to offer with home loans. “We’re trying to bridge that gap,” Ramirez said. “At the end of the day our goal is to help them get into a home.”

The Garcias have been married for 54 years, and their goal has been to enjoy their latter years in their own home after Garcia’s years of civil service. He worked for 28 years as an airframe repairman on B-52 bombers and C-5 transport aircraft at Kelly AFB.

“I appreciate everything Art did for me,” the veteran said. “That’s what it took for me to get my house.”

Healing Heroes Network (HHN) has been providing financial assistance to our veterans since 2008. As a non-profit organization, HHN's primary focus is to provide the means for wounded warriors to get the treatment and therapies they deserve and need.

Along with sweepstakes advertised at Hero Giveaway, HHN solely relies on the graciousness of their followers on Facebook through donations, merchandise, and entries to HG's giveaways.
