They began their campaign with a letter to members of the House that directly accuses the Pentagon of creating a "morally-bankrupt tactic" in order to completely avoid any veterans' preference.
The American Legion, by far the country's largest service organization, claims that the Pentagon has "turned their backs" on veterans who have proudly served their country.
One of the many sections of the letter expresses that,
"One would think the agency that produces veterans and service-disabled veterans would have the additional moral obligation to uphold the institution of Veterans Preference.
Instead, Department of Defense (DOD) turned their backs on their former employees, by initiating a provision...that dilutes veterans preference. The provision, if passed, would diminish Veterans Preferance".
