Father & Son Steal Thousands From Marine Toys for Tots

A former U.S. Marine is being charged alongside his son for the theft of tens of thousands of dollars from the Marine Toys for Tots program in Frankfort, KY.  Rusty Gaines, the former treasurer of the Marine Toys for Tots program in Kentucky, and his son Josh Gaines have pled guilty to stealing more than $40,000 from the program.

52-year old Rusty Gaines and his 32-year old son Josh Gaines after pleading guilty were sentenced to probation and must pay restitution for their crimes.

The theft was noticed when Rusty was replaced as treasurer and a noticeably discrepancy in funds was apparent.  The senior Gaines was treasurer from 2012-2014.  The younger Gaines was charged with a felony in Florida in 2008.

It is not the first time the Toys for Tots program has been the target of theft.  In April of 2015 Susan Dixon and Jimmy Baldwin were called to court on charges of theft in Chicago
