Social media has caught fire after a history teacher apparently stomped on the American flag during a class demonstration.
During the demonstration many of the students became offended and took pictures of the teacher during the act. Many of the pictures being shared on social media show the teacher, Lee Francis, standing in front of his class with a crumpled flag nearby on the floor.
Francis claims he was doing the demonstration in order to make a point on his lesson on the First Amendment. The scene took place at Massey Hill Classical High School.
Sara Taylor is a parent of one of the many students at the high school. Taylor posted the photo on Facebook and shared that Francis had even asked his classroom of students if anyone had a lighter or scissors. It was when he found out that no one had either that he proceeded to stomp on the flag.
Taylor's child was not in the classroom however her friend was.
Frank Till Jr. is the Cumberland County Superintendent. Till announced that he is still gathering crucial details about the incident before making any rash decisions.
"I don't want to make any comments until I get it sorted all out," Till said.
The teacher in question has also declined to make any public comments.
However he is proudly voicing his opinion on Facebook.
Many individuals are lashing out on social media. They are absolutely appalled that Francis would use such a demonstration in a military community.
"That flag might not mean anything to that teacher, but it means a lot to us and it means a lot to the family's (sic) who had their service member come home to them in a casket with that flag draped over it," Taylor wrote on her Facebook post.
Whether any action will be taken against Mr. Francis is still being decided.
