Veteran with PTSD Kicked Out of Dollar Tree Because of Service Dog

Joshua Schutt served as a specialist in the U.S. Army for three years until he was injured and thus medically discharged.

Since coming home he has been struggling with severe symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder on a daily basis.

A major breakthrough in Schutt's recovery came when he received a service dog!

The dog's name is "Hero" and he is now a 4-year-old German Shepherd.

Schrutt expressed to reporters that Hero is an angel and helps him with daily tasks such as remembering to take his prescriptions, going out in society, and even waking him up when he experiences night terrors.

Last Thursday the pair were off running their usual errands when they were confronted by an employee at their local Dollar Tree.

The employee demanded that Schrutt get out as dogs were not allowed. The employee also taunted Schrutt by saying that Hero wasn't a service dog at all, but merely a "comfort" dog.

The employee even went as far as calling the cops on Schrutt.

When deputies arrived they advised Schrutt to perhaps shop elsewhere due to the altercation.

Schutt was quoted saying,

"makes me feel unappreciated. It makes me wonder why I served".

Since the incident Dollar Tree has released a formal statement explaining,

"Please know Dollar Tree is committed to allowing customers to bring their service animals to all areas of the store where customers are normally permitted".

What is it about a huge RED jacket on a dog clearly marked SERVICE DOG do people not understand?

I went to the mall to just get out of the house. People are so rude!!! I was walking around and Khalani has her jacket on and kids started running up to her speaking spanish and whistling to her. She behaved herself, and I explained she was working.
The same bunch runs back over to the mother and said that I wouldn’t let them touch my dog. She comes stomping over while my hubby is in the dressing room. Starts yelling at me in spanish why the hell can’t her kids touch my dog. Khalani is trained to alert me to people behind me or approaching aggressively. She did exactly what she is trained to do, place herself between that person and me. I have hearing loss, so she alerts me by shaking against my leg.
Just as I was about to say something one of her kids came up behind me to touch Khalani. She barked at the kid to get away and looked at the woman and she starts screaming that she was going to have mall security make us leave.
Khalani never moved off my feet! She has to sit on my feet in case I have a seizure I’ll fall on her.
I surprisingly stayed calm, amused actually. She went to the register in JC Penney asking for help. So, I decided to roll with it.
Security shows up. All the while mind you, she is speaking spanish, as soon as they show up she can all of the sudden speak English!!!!!
The entire time the girl at the register and her had been talking about me and what they were going to"explain" what happened to security had been all in spanish. SURPRISE!!! I am not Mexican nor do I have a reason to give off an accent except my obvious Texas accent.
Wow! When security got there and they started telling the STORY of a vicious pit bull attack, I starting talking in spanish to security!!!!
The kids and both women just stopped and looked at me. Hahaha hahaha hahaha I was laughing so hard! They were told service dogs are to always be left alone, and for them to perhaps return another day to complete their shopping.
Hahaha hahaha hahaha hahaha
Couldn’t help myself.

It is bad that our vets are disrespected. Maybe that employee needs to be let go.
