The 2012 Get The Bikes Winner: Tom DeVries of Waterloo, Iowa!
Tom DeVries is a Fleet Manager for a beer distributor based in Iowa. When he's not working, he loves spending time with his wife and kids, boating, golfing, refurbishing his '77 Corvette, and riding motorcycles in his spare time. Thanks to his entries in the Get The Bikes annual sweepstakes, Tom can now enjoy riding motorcycles more than ever. Tom DeVries is the lucky winner of the 2012 Get The Bikes Giveaway Sweepstakes, and the proud new owner of a Harley-Davidson® Street Glide® and a Harley-Davidson® Fat Boy Lo™!
Tom's interest in Get The Bikes was piqued after seeing his wife and his cousins "Like" the campaign on their Facebook pages. He checked it out, was very interested, and bought a few ticket entries. Tom figured it was going to a good cause and, like most people, never expected to win. Helping out the troops returning from overseas was more than enough motivation to enter the drawing. However, when the drawing came, Tom received the coveted phone call from Healing Heroes Network Executive Director Stacey Spiegel, declaring him the winner. He could not believe his good fortune!
When asked if he wanted to say something to the veterans Healing Heroes Network helps, he replied, "Keep up the good work. It is hard and sometimes may seem thankless, but what they do is more than worth it to the people of America and those we help around the world. Remember that there are millions in the U.S. that are proud of you and support you 100%."
The 2011 Get The Bikes Winner: Valerie Snider of Mishawaka, Indiana
When Valerie Snider of Mishawaka, Indiana, heard about the Get The Bikes Sweepstakes, she was skeptical. Months later, when she heard she had WON, she was in downright denial.
"No WAY," she yelled over the phone after being told the good news. Running from August to December 2011, the first Get The Bikes Sweepstakes was conducted to raise funds and awareness for the Healing Heroes Network. With as little as $10 a donation, participants could enter for the chance to win the Grand Prize of two Harley-Davidson® motorcycles (a 2011 Street Glide™ and a 2011 Fat Boy Lo™) and a year's worth of gas to enjoy them.
Valerie donated for ten tickets, but never expected to do anything more than give to a good cause. "I was thinking this was either going to be a scam or actually was going to go to something good. Luckily, it went to something good, and it was for something even greater than me winning the bikes."
A giveaway party was held December 11, 2011, at the Clearwater, Florida, Quaker Steak n' Lube. Onlookers hushed for the Clearwater High School Color Guard, then cheered the winner through her emotional words."This has been a great, great experience for me," Valerie said. "Never did I ever imagine that something like this in my lifetime would ever happen just because I wanted to help somebody."Valerie accepted the motorcycles onstage, amidst tears and smiles. "We are all so happy for Valerie and grateful to all our supporters who contributed to this campaign," said Stacey Spiegel, Executive Director for Healing Heroes Network. "This is just one sign of appreciation for the brave men and women of our armed forces who risk their lives for us."
